Akuna Dragon Boat Club is a club built to cater for the community, focusing on fun fitness and friendship for the whole family. As a club we aim to open up sport to people from all walks of life, abilities and age levels.

The name Akuna is an Australian Aboriginal word meaning flowing water and moving forward. Our emblem, the Leafy Sea Dragon was designed by Indigenous artist Christine Slabb. The logo and colours together were created by our founders Cathy and Allan, in 2009.

We often enjoy participating in local regattas and festivals as well as the Qld state titles year after year, Akuna has also qualified for the National titles and in 2013 competed on the Olympic Rowing course in Penrith! You can help us fulfill our intentions to enter another qualifying team in the future.

Three of the Akuna juniors Sienna-Stahr, Jon and Sam, were selected for the Australian Team with guidance and confidence provided to them by our coach, as well as support and fundraising by family, friends and fellow Akuna members.

Akuna welcomes all walks of life, cultures, fitness levels and age groups, we have a strong family atmosphere. Our members meet to train together and socalise by way of dinner nights, coffee mornings and many other social events.

Akuna's training times are:

  • Monday and Wednesday evenings 5:15pm to approx 7pm, with a late pick up at 6pm for those stuck in traffic or at work.
  • Saturday mornings 7am to approx 9pm, then it's off to coffee and a chat. We do stop during the morning for a quick swim or walk on the beach.

We are offering 3 free sessions for newcomers at the moment, if you are new it is advised that you come to our Saturday session first, but be sure to contact us and let us know you're coming, either call or SMS Robyn on 0491 106 041.

Be sure to bring your hat, sunscreen and water bottle and remember dragon boating is a water sport so you might get a little wet!
